Pilita Corrales, Asia’s Queen of Songs, Passes Away at 87

Pilita Corrales, fondly hailed as “Asia’s Queen of Songs,” has passed away at the age of 87.

The sad news was confirmed by her granddaughter, actress Janine Gutierrez, on Saturday.

“Pilita touched the lives of many, not only with her songs but also with her kindness and generosity. She will be remembered for her contributions to the entertainment industry, but most of all for her love of life and family,” Janine shared in a heartfelt message.

“Please join us with your prayers and kind thoughts as we celebrate her beautiful life,” she added.

Janine did not disclose the cause of her grandmother’s passing. Details regarding memorial services will be announced in the coming days.

Pilita Corrales initially earned international fame in Australia with her hit song “Come Closer to Me.” When she returned to the Philippines, she solidified her popularity with the success of her chart-topping track “A Million Thanks to You.” becoming a massive hit and earning a place in many Filipino hearts.

She later became a household name in television, headlining the show “Your Evening with Pilita,” among other performances in films and specials. Her recent appearances included roles in movies like Enteng Kabisote 10 and the Abangers.

Some of her most iconic songs include “Kapantay Ay Langit,” “Usahay,” and “Ang Pipit,” which showcased her unmistakable voice and timeless appeal.

Pilita Corrales leaves behind a legacy of music, grace, and a life that inspired generations.
