VP Sara Duterte Backs Senator Imee Marcos’ Reelection After Exiting Admin Slate

Senator Imee Marcos has received the endorsement of Vice President Sara Duterte in her bid for reelection, weeks after the senator officially left the administration’s senatorial lineup.

On Monday, Imee shared on her Facebook page a 31-second political advertisement featuring Duterte’s endorsement. Both were dressed in black and expressed dismay over the country’s current situation.

“Itim ngayon ang kulay ng bansa sa gutom at krimen, nagluluksa,” said Duterte.

“Gutom na ang sikmura, gutom pa sa hustisya. Ginigipit ang hindi ka-alyansa,” Imee followed.

Duterte then ended the video by voicing her support for Imee’s reelection.

The senator was originally part of the administration coalition called Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas. However, on March 26, she withdrew from the slate after leading a Senate inquiry into the March 11 arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte—Sara Duterte’s father—based on a warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Before Imee’s departure, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had already excluded her from his endorsement speeches during the coalition’s campaign rallies.

In releasing initial findings of the Senate probe, Imee stated that the arrest violated the rights of the former president.
