Flood Control and Road Paving Projects Completed in Oriental Mindoro

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has successfully finished a flood control project and a concrete road paving initiative, improving resilience against natural disasters and enhancing transportation infrastructure in Naujan and Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro, which is expected to boost local economic activity.

In Barangay Pinagsabangan II, Naujan, a flood mitigation structure was completed along the Mag-Asawang Tubig River, with an investment of ₱19.79 million. This structure is designed to reduce the risks of flooding that affect local communities, agricultural lands, and key infrastructure.

In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Regional Office IV-B Director Gerald A. Pacanan emphasized that the flood protection project aims to lessen the negative effects of flooding, providing long-term safety and better living conditions for local residents.

Additionally, a 271.29-meter concrete access road was constructed in Sitio Ibaba, Barangay Canubing II, Calapan City, with a budget of ₱4.89 million. This new road now serves as a vital transportation route, facilitating business operations and improving access to essential services for the local community.

The road improvement project also included the installation of slope protection on critical sections and the placement of a reinforced concrete pipe culvert to ensure durability and prevent erosion.

Director Pacanan concluded that the completion of these projects, undertaken by the DPWH Mindoro Oriental District Engineering Office, will have a positive impact on Naujan and Calapan City, helping drive economic growth and community development in the region. #
