Cayetano Advocates for Healthcare Support

In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, Senator Pia S. Cayetano delivered an inspiring message at a Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar held in Muntinlupa. The event was organized by the Muntinlupa City Government, led by Mayor Ruffy Biazon, in collaboration with the Metro Manila Mayors Spouses Foundation and the ICanServe Foundation.

Senator Cayetano extended heartfelt gratitude to the healthcare workers in attendance, recognizing their essential contributions to breast cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment. Reflecting on her personal experience, she expressed empathy for those who have lost loved ones to cancer, recalling her father’s battle with liver cancer. “Kami po ay nag-survive dahil sa malasakit ng mga health workers na nakapaligid sa tatay namin,” she said, emphasizing the vital role that healthcare providers played in caring for her late father, Senator Rene Cayetano.

Encouraging the audience, the Senator remarked, “Ipagpatuloy niyo yung magagandang trabaho ninyo, karamihan pala sa inyo dito ay mga health workers,” underscoring the significance of their dedication to the health sector.

As the author and advocate of the Sin Tax Law, Cayetano discussed how these taxes, which generated P184 billion in incremental revenue this year, support the healthcare sector. The funds are utilized for constructing and upgrading health facilities, such as super health centers and hospitals, acquiring medical equipment like mammogram machines, and providing financial assistance to patients. She highlighted the importance of national and local government cooperation to ensure that resources are effectively allocated for health initiatives.

The seminar not only aimed to raise awareness about breast cancer but also to celebrate the tireless efforts of healthcare professionals in saving lives and improving health outcomes.#
